The human body is made up of roughly 60% water while the Earth is made up of 71% water. The moon’s gravitational pull affects the tides of water around the world during Full and New Moons. Studies have also found that the moon can affect sleep which in turn affects moods, intuition, dreams and energy. Agricultural programs are also finding solid scientific proof behind biodynamic farming which is based on how the moon affects the water content and growth within plants and even calls for closer attention to harvesting times depending on which part of the plant is needed for nutritional and medicinal benefits.
Modern science is only validating what people have known for centuries, that water is life and the moon is essential in that pull. Throughout that time, herbs have been used in ceremonies, revolved around the moon, to tap into intuition and become receptive to the power of the wax and wane. However, you can’t receive when you’re full or blocked. Intuitive and physical blockages are caused by a lot of factors. The Water bitters are designed to clear out blockages so you’re able to flow with the currents. The bitters were also designed with taste in mind. Each drop tastes like a sliver of the moon opening up your throat, mind and pushing out the undesired to elevate you.
Burdock Root (Arctium lappa)- One of the most renown blood purifiers in the plant world, the root is used for all manners of skin and liver issues. Purifying the blood can actually clear up a lot of blemishes and is my go-to during my menstrual cycle. It has an extremely high concentration of minerals, vitamins and trace minerals which is perfect for nourishment when the body seems lacking in basic systemic functions. Sometimes, due to stress, the body can retain extra water as a means of protection, so Burdock’s diuretic properties will help clear out the excess liquid while the bitterness relaxes the over worked organs.
Nettle (Urtica dioica)- It was extremely difficult not to put Nettle in everyone of the bitters in this collection but I knew it was mandatory to put in the Water blend. It is important to cleanse your system periodically but it is also important to nourish it while doing so. Again, it is about the balance. Nettle is notorious for its high amounts of vitamin A, K, Chlorophyll and digestible Iron all of which are easily assimilated. It has also been used for excess water retention and PMS side effects including bloating and discomfort. Nettle also removes phlegm in the bladder and kidney which aids in lymphatic productivity.
Spearmint (Mentha viridis)- Spearmint was originally only added to this blend to achieve the tingly taste of the Water Bitters. However, all of the detoxifying benefits that Spearmint has to offer are too good to ignore. Not only does it contain high amounts of B vitamins, Spearmint eases digestive issues and phlegm blockages. This is one of the herbs in the blend that also works on the mind. Spearmint is uplifting, relieves headaches and opens the mind up for reception.
Garden Sage (Salvia officinalis)- Spiritually, all over the world, sage has been used to aid in intuition whether it be to cleanse a space to allow for this practice or taken internally to elevate the senses. In Hinduism, intuition is directly correlated to the moon and in turn, water. Sage also has physical properties that are beneficial to detox including kidney and bladder support.
Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale)- Open up an herbal book and there will be pages upon pages of the benefits found in all parts of the Dandelion. The dandelion is a huge advocate of liver health which improves hormonal regulation, metabolism and digestion among many other functions. Among these benefits, the diuretic benefits of Dandelion, make it essential to detox.
Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis)- Hyssop is yet another herb within this blend aiding in detox of the kidney, liver and bladder. Hyssop is amazing for tackling phlegm within the lungs as well as increasing blood circulation which is essential in aiding in organ function. It is a great herb to help out with seasonal colds, allergies and asthma. Metaphysically, Hyssop has been used to cleanse the body of impurities of sin and even shows up in the Bible!
